Counties finish on a high

The final day at County’s has yet again been a Great day for Newmarket. We started off with the 400m events with 10 swimmers, they came away with 3 Bronze, 2 Silver and 2 Gold medals, 3 new regional times for Joseph Bavey Tess Wesley and Lauren Booth ,Etholle Marks was just 4.3 seconds off hers and Thomas Allison just 1.7 so we are going to try and have another go at those. Next up were Lauren Watt & Dannii Rayner the Female skins, the first round was Br/s and both got through, next was Fly sadly we lost Lauren at this stage as Fly is not her forte, Danny then had the F/c but for Dannii this was her departure as well as F/c not the stroke she favours. Well done to both of them, it was the first time we have made the Skins. Finally came the relays, it was fast, noisy and very exciting. In the first half the girls all did F/c & the boys medley. The 14/15 yr. girls were up first with Ciara Gill-Ryan Gemma Booth Safi Axon - Coates & Lauren Watt it was 4th for them but so close just 2 seconds off. Next 14/15 boys with Alex Swarbrick, Harry Saunders ,William White & Thomas Allison and 7th, then 12/13 girls with Ella McCleary , Ruby Davis, Etholle Marks & Tess Wesley 6th, no boys in the 12/13 group, then 10/11 girls with Romilly Marks, Daisy, Miriam & Maeve Pooley a great 3rd, the boys 10/11 with Joseph Bavey, Jack Saunders, Zak Baldwin & Spyros Mantis and again a great 3rd with less than a second splitting all 3 teams, then the Open girls with Dannii Rayner, Jess Rayner,Phillippa Allison & Charlie Davis 8th and lastly the Open boys with Henry Newell, Harry Warner, Nezz Laghero & Karl Heider 7th. We then swopped the strokes around with the girls teams doing the Medley and the boys on F/c the 14/15 girls were 3rd so this time a medal, the 14/15 boys were 7th again, the 12/13 girls moving up a place to 5th, 10/11 yr. girls had another great 3rd and the 10/11 year boys well what can I say this race brought tears to my eyes, we started off coming in 3rd on the first leg and held that position all the way to our last swimmer, Ipswich were 11 seconds in front and W/S were 2 seconds in front, Joseph went in and had the swim of his life he brought his team mates back and stole the Gold 2.16, Ipswich 2.17 & W/s 2.18. The Open girls were 9th and lastly the Open boys again very close Ipswich 1.38, Stowmarket 1.40, Beccles 1.40, W/S 1.42, Deben 1.42 and Newmarket 1.45. so 6th. Overall on points we came 5th out of 13 Clubs so a great result here as well. Overall Winners in their age groups 10/11yr Joseph Bavey taking 1st and Zak Baldwin taking 3rd, 10/11yr girls Maeve Pooley, 12yr girls Tess Wesley was 2nd, the 13yr boys Henry Newell 2nd, 15yr girls Lauren watt 1st. We as a Club we came away holding onto the 3rd spot for the overall Club position behind Ipswich and West Suffolk, that’s out of 13 Clubs. I hope everyone has had as good a County’s as I have, our swimmers have made lots of tongues wagging over the last three weeks, we have had lots of praise and congratulations from other Coaches and parents alike. I would like to finish by saying a great big thank you to all our parents for their continued lively support, the gang in whites and my fellow coaches and poolside helpers for without them all of this would not be possible. A massive Congratulations to all.
