Newmarket Swim Club staged their Skins competition on Sunday 13th September at their home pool and the exciting sudden death format did not disappoint.
Six boys and six girls are selected on the strength of their fastest 100 Individual Medley times. As the first swimmer is eliminated, they then draw from hat the Medley stroke discipline that the remaining swimmers will face in the next round. The only recovery given to the boys between rounds is the time it takes for the girls to swim their 50m.
Olivia Curtin was first to depart. Belinda Dow was next out and Gemma Booth followed. Tess Wesley was a gallant third. The girls final was contested by the fast improving Ciara Gill-Ryan taking on last years champion Charlie Davis. Tess pulled Butterfly from the hat and Ciara showed her supremacy on the second 25m to win well.
In the boys event, Peter Winter was first to depart.James Hood followed and Alex Swarbrick was next to leave. Joseph Bavey was a superb third and the showdown final was a scintillating freestyle race between Harry Saunders and Henry Newell. Henry has stamina to burn and used all his experience to break 30 seconds for victory
