Great Results at the clubs Sprint Open

There was great atmosphere at Newmarket Leisure Centre when Newmarket & District Swimming Club hosted its 4th Sprint Open on Sunday 7 December. The oversubscribed meet saw major successes for the home club with 142 Personal Best (PB) times, 19 County times and 6 Regional times as well as 20 Gold Medals, 14 Silver Medals and 31 Bronze medals. Henry Newell won 6 Gold Medals in 50m Backstroke, 50m Freestyle, 100m Individual Medley, 100m Freestyle, 200m Freestyle and 200m Individual Medley achieving 4 Regional qualifying times. Ignacio Larghero won 4 Gold Medals in 50m Backstroke, 100m Individual Medley, 100m Butterfly and 200m Individual Medley, 2 Silver medals in 50m Butterfly and 50m Breaststroke and 2 Bronze Medals in 50m Freestyle and 100m Freestyle achieving 2 Regional times. Thomas Allison gained 5 County times and Gold in 200m Individual Medley, Silver in 100m Freestyle and 100m Butterfly and Bronze in 50m Freestyle and 100m Individual Medley. Jack Saunders won Gold in 50m and 200m Freestyle, Bronze in 50m Backstroke, 50m Breaststroke and 50m Butterfly and gained 3 new County times. Calum McBurnie gained a new County time as well as a Gold medal in 100m Breaststroke and Bronze in 50m Breaststroke and 200m Freestyle For the girls, Ciara Gill-Ryan gained 3 new County times and Silver in 200m Freestyle and Bronze in 50m Butterfly, 50m Backstroke, 100m Freestyle, 100m Breaststroke and 100m Individual Medley. Etholle Marks gained 2 new County times as well as Silver medals in 100m Individual Medley, 200m Individual Medley and 200m Freestyle and Broz in 50m Butterfly. Tess Wesley also achieved 2 new County times and Bronze medals in 50m Backstroke, 50m Breaststroke and 100m Individual Medley. Ella McCleary gained a new County time in 200m Individual Medley and a Bronze medal in 200m Freestyle. Sophie Bellwood gained a new County time, Silver in 100m Backstroke and Bronze in 100m Breaststroke whilst Charlotte Rice gained a County time in her 50m Freestyle. Other medal winners were Zak Baldwin (Gold in 50m Backstroke and 50m Breaststroke and Silver 50m Butterfly), Daniel Millard (Gold 100m Individual Medley, Silver 50m Backstroke and 200m Freestyle and Bronze in 50m Freestyle), Alex Millard (Silver in 50m Butterfly and 100m Individual Medley and Bronze in 100m Backstroke and 200m Freestyle), Angus Dow (Bronze 100m Breaststroke), Belinda Dow (100m Breaststroke), Harry Saunders (Bronze in 50m and 100m Freestyle), Maeve Pooley (Gold in 50m Backstroke and 100m Individual Medley and Silver 50m Freestyle), Joseph Bavey (Gold 50m Butterfly), Joshua Passey (Bronze 200m Individual Medley), Julian Lomas (Bronze 50m Freestyle), Safi Axon-Coates (Bronze 50m Breaststroke) and Charlie Davis (Bronze 200m Freestyle). The event could not have taken place without the many volunteers who made the event run so smoothly and the generosity of the race sponsors whom the club look like to thank for their support.
